Growing up on
Orrs Island gave me a special feeling for Maine coast life.
I graduated from Oak Grove School in Vassalboro, and went on
to study Graphic Design at Pratt Institute in New York. After
college, I returned to Maine and worked as a commercial artist
and Art Director for ten years. Then, in 1996 I began exhibiting
& selling my paintings at art shows throughout New England,
where I won numerous awards. In 2006, my husband, Tom and I opened
the Greenier Studio/Gallery next to our home at 428 Middle Street
in Bath, where I paint, exhibit my work and teach.
It is important
to have my art always be evolving. I started out painting in
watercolor Maine coastal scenes and coastal still lifes.
I switched to oils just before we opened our gallery in 2006.
However, in recent years Ive taken to plein air painting,
and joined the PAPME group of outdoor artists in Boothbay Harbor.
My husband also loves painting outdoors, so its been fun
painting along the coast together. For years we took extended
summer painting trips to Monhegan Island and Stonington. Now,
we tend to paint more locally, as there is such an abundance
of natural beauty right at our doorstep. Painting closer to home
is also more personal, and our best work seems to be of those
places that are most meaningful to us.
loved Impressionistic painting, so last summer I took a month-long
workshop with the well known American Impressionist, John C.
Traynor. It was truly life changing living in New Hampshire and
immersing myself completely into my work. I had the opportunity
to paint outside 6 hours a day, 6 days a week. I also enjoy teaching
painting. And, I offer two daytime oil and acrylic painting classes
in my studio during the Fall and Winter.
I most enjoy painting
quintessential Maine scenes. My oil paintings are designed to
depict island and coastal living at its best, and convey a sense
of place. Outdoor painting has helped me to see and feel my subject
in a way that I can transmit that excitement into my work. My
goal as an artist is to convey a feeling, a moment in time -
and to evoke that in the viewer as well.
